Don King is a boxing promoter who has worked with Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson just to mention a few. He is known for

being animated and flamboyant in the ring.

The young King dropped out of Kent State University to run an illegal bookmaking operation. He was charged with killing two men, he was convicted of second-degree murder and served almost four years in prison.

While in prison, he gained knowledge by reading every book he could get.

King’s major entry into the boxing world was when he promoted Ali and Foreman’s fight in Congo, “The Rumble in the Jungle”. In 1965, he successfully promoted the “Thrilla in Manila” fight between Ali and Frazier. Outside boxing, he promoted Jackson’s victory tour in 1984.

Don is not without controversy, in 1992 he was allegedly linked to mob boss John Gotti. He has been sued for underpayment by almost all the boxers he worked with from Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.

Don King is still alive and still working. It was reported he will promote American heavyweight Trevor Bryan’s fight this year, 2022. Although he is slowing down due to ageing, he is as healthy as he could be for a 90-year-old man.
