How many of England’s 1966 World Cup squad players are still alive?
Among the 22 players who played for the England national team in the 1966 World Cup, there is just one surviving member of the squad after Bobby Charlton, 86, passed away on Saturday.
The only surviving player is Sir Geoff Hurst – an English former professional footballer.
He was a striker who became the first and one of only two men to ever score a hat-trick in a World Cup final when England recorded a 4–2 victory over West Germany at Wembley Stadium in 1966.
He is the son of Charlie Hurst – a professional footballer who played as a center-half for Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale, and Evelyn Hopkins. He was born to his parents on December 8, 1941, in Ashton-under-Lyne, United Kingdom, hence, he is currently at the age of 81.
Hurst lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire with his wife Judith whom he has been married since October 1964. Together, they have three daughters but the eldest Claire died in 2010 after a ten-year-long battle against a brain tumour.
